This morning i woke up, preparing to move my car parked on Harris st before going to work. To my surprise, i received an unpleasant present from RTA on the last day of 2008 which is a fine for parking on clearway on special event.

Can you believe it?
I parked the car last night at about 11 pm because aparently there was no other parking lot available around my house. I parked my car in front of my house and received a fine $189 AUD for parking … 8 hours max.
I only saw there is a small notice board extended on top of the normal sign this morning.
Clear way event 6am 31-12 2am 1-1
The fine was given at 6:44 am.
I’m not sure when they put it up there but i’m sure it’s not on Sunday.
Is it possible that the hard working officers put up the Clear way notice at 6 am and then gave fine at 6:44 am?
There was less traffic at that time than normal days.
There was barely a car even at 3pm, i took some photos of the street at around 3pm.

What is the f*** event happenning on Harris St?
At the same time there is no clear way event on other busier streets like Sussex St or even Liverpool st.
Why? Those streets are ticket parking which is a big source of income for City of Sydney … to pay salary for officers whose job is rip off more pepple.
The main point of clear way special event on Harris St is ripping off people (living in City of Sydney) with big fine.
It’s obviously not because of the street is busier than normal days and needs to be clear for busy traffic.

City of Sydney? Rip off Specialist, everything from tax to rta fees, charges ….
I’m paying tax 12K+ per year.
I can’t think of 3 things that City of Sydney gave back to me for $1000 tax i paid every month.

I drive on the street, the street is available for me to drive free?
No, it’s not free. I pay tax to renew car registration, multiply by thousands of cars on the street.

I park on the street, where i received the fine $189 AUD. Is it free?
No, it’s not free. I have to pay City of Sydney for a parking permit.

I walked on the side walk, probably a free thing i can enjoy?
No, every household has to pay council fee. Even i don’t pay for the sidewalk but it’s already paid by someone else. Many people walking everyday so it’s probably a few cents each person to build the sidewalk. People on Harris St enjoy the bad smell from recycle bin with no lid cover. There is dog shit on the walk way from Harris St to Darling Harbour.

I studied at University which i had to pay fees.
If you’re international students, be prepared to pay 4 times more than local students.
There is also no concession for international students. Isn’t that racist/rip-off.

I go to work and make some money. City of Sydney give me a chance to make money?
Kind of. My company has to pay tax to the government and i have to pay bloody income tax every month.

I go to restaurant or food court to eat. City of Sydney give me a chance to eat?
Kind of. I use my after tax money to pay for the food. The restaurant has to pay tax as well.

Even the interest earning when you keep money in the bank is taxed 24%
That is tax on top of earning from taxed money.

City of Sydney give me safety to live in?
Not really. My car parked on the street (Upper Fig St) and was broken the window glass and badly damaged the inside. That’s just a few months ago on a day that there was no parking slot available around my house.
I didn’t bother to call the police. Everyone knows how Australian police works.
People report stolen to police to claim insurance, not waiting for resolution from police.
Have you ever heard a story of people being robbed/attacked in Surry Hills or Redfern area.
I’m sure if you live/work in City of Sydney, you would hear a story once.
I have friends being robbed in that area, from wallet to laptop.

In short all of my tax must be gone to the salary of the officer giving me the fine.
I can’t think of 3 things i get back from the tax taken away from my salary.
